In addition to hand cutting our own opals, we hand forge all our settings, making them truly a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art. We mostly use 14kt yellow gold for both the bands and the bezel wire. Some of our bezel plates are gold, some are sterling silver. Because many of our opals are cut in unusual shapes, our settings are more challenging to create than typical symetrical settings.
Shown below is a Mintabie Black Opal cut from the raw lot below. The piece has a full spectrum play of color - lots of oranges and reds..
We import a variety of raw opal, predominantly from Australia. Once in our shop, each piece is examined to determine the best cut to optimize the fire display and then hand-cut using water and diamond dust blades to form a basic shape. Several iterations of progressively finer polishing wheels with diamond paste produce a fine quality finish on each stone. Shown below are raw pieces of Australian Opal including Allen's Rise, Mintabie Black and Sugar Cooked Matrix Opal.

In addition to different types of opal, there are several patterns of fire play which can appear. Shown below is one of the rarest, a piece of Ridge Black Opal with a Harlequin pattern, cut in our studio.
Terraluma has recently introduced the Pacific Pearl Collection featuring fine quality cultured pearls from the Pacific Rim. All necklaces are handcrafted with a variety of cultured pearls and many also include precious and semi-precious gemstones, providing a new twist on a classic look. All pieces are hand-knotted with 100% natural silk in our design studio. Featured below is a burgundy cultured pearl and garnet necklace.
